Similar to player cards or coins, stamps are also quite valuable in the collector’s market. Whether they portray famous people or are rare Canadian stamps, there is a market for all types of stamps that can range into tens of thousands of dollars. These are five rare Canadian stamps that range in price from $45,000 to $225,000.
5. 60¢ Air Mail Overprint Stamp (1927), $45,000
Our fifth selection is the 60¢ Air Mail overprint stamp, which is one of the rarest air post stamps. Only 300 of these stamps were printed in 1927, and today 33 mint copies are known to exist. The rarest stamp in our collection is the 1851 12d black Canada stamp, one of Canada’s first classic stamps. The surface features the portrait of young Queen Victoria and had a total of 51,000 printed and shipped to the Canadian postal authorities in 1851. Since these stamps were more expensive only 1,450 of them were sold in the three and a half years they were offered. Mint examples with the intact gum are the most valuable, with one selling in 2013 for $225,000 by a Canadian auction house.
