6. Montana
Located towards the western part of the United States is our sixth selection, Montana which borders Canada. The western half of the state is made up of numerous mountain ranges, while the east has western prairie terrain and badlands, with other smaller mountain ranges scattered across the state. Between the state’s location and numerous mountains, its average temperature is 42.6°F.

5. Wyoming
Nestled under Montana is our fifth coldest state in the US, Wyoming. The western part of the state consists mostly of ranges from the Rocky Mountains, while the eastern part of the state is home to the High Plains. 3. Minnesota
You may know our third coldest state as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” but there are many other interesting attributes of Minnesota. Named as the northernmost state in the contiguous US, Minnesota is covered in lakes, forests, prairies, and farmland. Winters are usually quite frigid, but summers can bring hot and humid weather.

2. North Dakota
Situated between Montana and Minnesota is our second coldest state, North Dakota. Part of the Great Plains region, North Dakota is known for broad plains, steppes, savannas, badlands, and farmland. The weather usually has cold winters and warm-hot summers, but its location in the Upper Midwest allows North Dakota to experience some of the widest variety of weather in the US.

Alaska’s climate is dominated by long, cold winters, and cool summers where snow could be possible year-round.
