The best Royal Rumbles in history are more than memorable. They are the pinnacle of wrestling and often the highlight of the WWE calendar.
The concept originated in 1988, and over time it has come to feature up to 30 competitors (the number of spots reserved for wrestlers on the roster).
For those who don’t know, the goal of a Royal Rumble is to throw all the opposing wrestlers from the ring. Wrestlers who do get thrown out are eliminated from the match.
Moreover, the last wrestler standing is declared the winner and earns the opportunity at a Championship Title at WrestleMania.

5. Royal Rumble, 1988
The 1988 Royal Rumble was the first-ever tournament of its kind. Unlike all other prior Rumbles, it wasn’t filmed in a closed-off studio:
Instead, this event was televised as a special on the USA Network, and no additional cost was required by anyone in order to watch the event.
The Rumble of ’88 only boasted 20 competitors, however. Hacksaw Jim Duggan eventually took home the victory.

4. Royal Rumble, 1998
The 1998 pay-per-view saw Stone Cold Steve Austin take home his second victory in the event. Mike Tyson was on hand to promote a future match between himself and Austin.
The Rattlesnake also placed a bounty on the head of Savio Vega, thus adding even more excitement to an already passionate event. Eventually, as everyone knew it would happen, Austin managed to eliminate the Rock for this victory!

3. Royal Rumble, 2000
The WWE may have given the ultimate thumbs up for this show with matches like Triple H vs. Cactus Jack for the WWE Championship or The Hardy Boyz and Dudley Boyz going toe to toe in tables match.
However, Tazz undeniably stole the spotlight during his entertaining matchup with Kurt Angle. This match was mentioned by many as one of their favorite memories of this event!

2. Royal Rumble, 2001
WWE didn’t seem to feel the pressure when it came to topping their successful Royal Rumble events year after year. As a matter of fact, they outdid themselves in the following year by delivering an even better show.
Several of the company’s top talent competed in the Royal Rumble of 2001, including The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kane, and The Undertaker.
In addition, metal rocker Jeff Hardy joined the likes of big-name competitors, which was a huge win for his career.
Despite all this talent, Stone Cold managed to become victorious at the end of the night. He was, and he is, the only superstar to achieve this feat in the history of WWE.

1. Royal Rumble, 2007
In 2007, 30th place meant a lot to WWE, and it was the first time in history that a wrestler in that position made it to the end and grabbed the Rumble Trophy:
With The Undertaker eliminating Shawn Michaels for his first Rumble victory ever.
This legendary final duel between him and HBK, lasted nearly eight minutes, and will probably go down in history as having the best head-to-head duel between two legends.
Nobody had any idea who would win this match. It was an all-time highlight and a historic WWE moment.
