When it comes to expensive liquors, tequila doesn’t usually come to mind. Instead, whiskeys, wines, and champagnes jump to the forefront of thoughts. But several tequilas demand top-dollar. Here is a list of the most expensive tequilas in the world.
10. Deleon Deona Anejo Tequila, $1,000
Every tequila in the DeLeon lineup is in the luxury price range, but none more so than their Leona. The spirit inside every bottle is carefully selected by DeLeon’s Master Distiller, blended from the best barrels of that year’s tequila production, and rested for a year in French Sauternes casks. This tequila costs $1,000 a bottle but is not as expensive as the others.

9. Clase Azul Ultra Extra Anejo Tequila, $1,700
Clase Azul has been producing high-quality tequila since the year 1997. Since then, the brand has gained a reputation for selling marvelous and expensive tequila. Coming in at $1,700, the limited-edition series Clase Azul Ultra Extra Anejo Tequila is one of their most expensive contributions. Only 100 bottles were released to the market, with half the bottles released in Mexico and the other half in the US.

Jose Cuervo is the biggest-selling Tequila brand in the world and certainly one of the most instantly recognizable. Jose Cuervo 250 Aniversario is made from blue agave and ultra-aged in ex-bourbon casks before blending with Tequila from Demijohns in Cuervo’s cellar.
6. Barrique de Ponciano Profidio Tequila $2,000
Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio Tequila is aged for ten years in French oak barrels. This exclusive and expensive tequila is distributed in batches of just 2,000 bottles per year, making it an uncommon find costing $2,000. Made from 100% agave, Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio is undiluted by minerals or corruption of a water supply, giving the tequila a clean taste.
5. Patron x Guillermo Del Toro Anejo Tequila, $5,000
Parton X Guillermo Del Toro Anejo Tequila is an extra anejo expression comprised of a blend of Tequilas aged for five years in oak barrels. The original box, which also features a limited-edition liqueur, retailed for $399; it’s now sold for up to $5,000.

4. Patron En Lalique, Series 2, $7,500
This Tequila the Patron En Lalique Series 2 is a beautiful golden extra Anejo aged eight years in American oak, French oak, and sherry barrels. As for the bottle, it’s quite a sight; a cut crystal decanter housed in a wooden box complete with a retractable viewing panel. The Lalique association no doubt contributes to the value of this expression. This tequila is going for $7,500. Some will say it is worth it for its rich taste in flavor.
3. Clase Azul 15th Anniversary Edition, $30,000
Clase Azul released their 15th-anniversary edition tequila with a limited run of 15 uniquely designed bottles, priced at $30,000 each. The bottles are hand-painted ceramics designed by local artists and come in a decorative box featuring 24-carat gold inlay.

2. Tequila Ley. 925 Ultra-Premium, $25,000 to $225,000
Tequila Ley .925 is so expensive that it even holds the second spot on our list. Tequila Ley commissioned Mexican artist Alejandro Gomez Oropeza to design three unique bottles resembling barbed seashells. The company released only 33 bottles of each design. A gold and silver bottle retailed for $25,000, while a Gold and Platinum bottle retailed for $150,000. The most expensive bottle, the white gold and platinum variety, retailed for $225,000.
