World of Warcraft is a truly enduring video game, with millions of players continuing to play the MMO or return to it for major content updates to this day. One of the features that fans of WoW love is the mounts, which are a form of transportation in the game that can be either creatures or machines in some cases. Some classes can even summon these mounts as part of their perks and there are numerous ways to acquire them. This means that some mounts are rarer than others and there are many highly sought after ones that are coveted by players.

Here we will take a look at the rarest world of warcraft mounts and where to find them. Note that most of the entries covered below are attainable in-game. We provide examples of mounts that do not require you to purchase them.

10. Thundering Cobalt Cloud Serpent

This mount is very visually striking with shimmering blue scales and orange detailing but it is one of the rarest mounts for that reason. It is a potential drop from defeating Nalak, although the drop rate for it is just 0.6%, making it one of the rarer mounts in the game. On top of that, you will need to befriend the order of the cloud serpent to gain the spell required to ride it.

9. Silent Glider

For something a little smaller and slightly rarer, you have the Silent Glider mount. You will need to seek out the Soundless enemies, which will drop this mount at a rate of 0.58%. It is not easy to farm this drop either since the Soundless will only drop loot once every day, meaning that it could take a very long time to acquire the Silent Glider.

8. Son of Galleon

There are a few requirements to acquire this hulking reptilian mount, which means that you don’t see it very often. You will need to take on Galleon, who will drop Son of Galleon’s saddle at a rate of 0.03%. Despite this lower drop rate, you can actually carry out a bonus roll for an additional chance to acquire the mount every week.

7. Solar Spirehawk

The Solar Spirehawk is another one of the rarest World of Warcraft mounts as it is very striking mount with a wide and blazing wingspan. To obtain it you will need to defeat Rukhmar in the Spires of Arak, which has a 0.03% chance of dropping this mount. You will probably need to take on Rukhmar quite a few times before you get your hands on the Solar Spirehawk, which is why it is seldom seen.

6. The Polar Bear

While this isn’t the only polar bear mount in the game, it is the only remaining attainable one. To get your hands on the Polar Bear mount you will need to complete the daily quest in Brunnhildar Village. To get access to this quest, you will need to make your way through the Sons of Hodir questline, which will take a significant time investment. By completing this daily quest, you have a chance to receive the Polar Bear mount from the Hyldnir spoils random drops.

5. Deathcharger’s Reins

If you have been playing World of Warcraft for some time, you are bound to recognize this menacing mount. The Deathcharger’s Reins is available as a rare drop from the Baron Rivendere boss at the end of Stratholme. It has a drop rate lower than 1%, meaning it is a highly sought after mount in the game.

4. Ashes of Al’ar

The Ashes of Al’ar mount is perhaps the most opulent mount in the game. It has a glowing hue that emanates from the legendary bird. It is estimated that the drop rate is around 1%, acquired from the final boss of The Eye, Kael’thas Sinstrider. This drop rate and the path to it make it one of the rarest mounts in WoW.

3. Obsidian Worldbreaker

We will now start to get into some mounts that are unobtainable via normal gameplay, making them extremely rare. They are still available on the black market but often at very high price points.

The Obsidian Worldbreaker was attainable during the World of Warcraft 15th anniversary event via a line of quests and bosses. This consisted of three different raids, meaning that even if you were playing the game during this event, it is likely that you didn’t acquire this mount.

2. Vicious War Croaker

Here we go from a terrifying dragon to an armored frog with the Vicious War Croaker. It has to be won through a series of Arena and Battleground PvP fights. The prerequisites to acquire the Vicious War Croaker mean that this mount is seldom seen and highly sought after, allowing high speed movement if you are skilled enough to control it.

1. Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal

At the time of writing, the Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal is unobtainable due to the scepter’s reformation. This is because it is only available during the Scepter of the Shifting Sands event, meaning it is now incredibly rare. There are different variations of the Qiraji Resonating Crystal which are attainable via Ahn’Qiraj but the black version remains a legendary and rare mount in World of Warcraft.
