Most bottles are quite affordable, but on this most expensive champagne bottles list, the price jumps up into the thousands, or millions, of dollars. 12. 1990 Louis Roederer Cristal Brut Millesime Cuvée Methuselah, $6,875
Created by Louis Roederer in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II, he annually reserved the House’s best selection of Cristal for his collection. Still in business today, the champagne has a signature silky texture and fruity aromas, complemented by a powerful mineral quality. This is achieved by mixing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes and letting them age for over six years.

11. 1959 Dom Pérignon Oenotheque Brut Millesime, $8,315
1959 brought a lenient harvest for champagne and gave us the eleventh most expensive champagne on our list. The 1959 Dom Pérignon has a fruity taste while producing scents of oriental tobacco, honey, licorice, and fig. Only the best grapes get chosen for Dom Pérignon champagne, with the final composition being either equal, 60% Chardonnay, or 60% Pinot Noir.

10. 1998 Dom Pérignon Rosé Jeroboam, $8,333
Our tenth selection is from 1998 with Dom Pérignon’s Rosé. This champagne is tempered over twelve years in the cellar before being sold, the flavors only increase as time goes on. In terms of smell, the Rosé starts with a strawberry and raspberry scent, then drifts into notes of iris and violet. The final touch is at the end when you get privet, angelica, and camphor tree aromas.
9. 1966 Salon Cuvée’s Le Mesnil Blanc de Blancs Brut, $9,559
Still one of the premier champagne brands in the liquor industry, the 1966 Salon Blanc de Blancs comes from a rich history. The first vintage of Salon Champagne was created in 1905, made by Eugène-Aimé Salon. Initially for Salon’s pleasure only, it wasn’t until the 1920s that he shared his creation, the Blanc de Blancs, with the rest of the world. Each batch is aged in the cellars for an average of ten years and is later sold or kept for decades afterward.

8. 1937 Krug Collection Magnum, $31,000
One of the rarer expensive champagnes on our list is due to the signature on the bottle. Henri Krug was the head of the famous family vineyard from 1977 to 2002, helping shape the quality of the champagne. In 2012, a bottle of their 1937 champagne was signed by the brothers Krug and sold at auction for an impressive $31,000.

7. 1841 Veuve Clicquot, $34,000
There is quite a story with our next most expensive champagne bottle, all the way back to 1841. This particular batch of 1841 Veuve Clicquot was found on a shipwreck in the Baltic Sea and garners a pretty penny at auction. In terms of their more current champagnes, Veuve Clicquot has 390 hectares of vineyard space which was built up over the centuries.
6. 1820 Juglar Cuvée, $43,500
Staying in the 19th century, our next most expensive champagne was also found on a shipwreck. The 1820 Juglar Cuvée was found in November 2010 off the Finnish archipelago of Åland in the heart of the Baltic. There were 168 bottles on the ship, and have now been recognized as some of the best bottles of champagne on the planet. Interestingly enough, these bottles get rarer because the Juglar champagne house was sold and integrated into the Jacquesson house.

5. 1874 Perrier-Jouet, $50,735
Surfacing back into the world of champagne and auctioneer’s blocks is the 1874 Vintage Perrier-Jouet. One of these bottles was sold in 1888 and became one of the highest-selling champagnes in auction until 1967. Blended by Charles Perrier, the champagne was created from Chardonnay grapes from Cramant, one of the Maison’s most prestigious vineyards. 1874 was the year for impeccable wine and champagne, which places the Perrier-Jouet firmly in our fifth spot.
4. NV Armand de Brignac Brut Gold Midas, $51,600
Pricing at over $50,000, our fourth most expensive champagne is the Gold Midas. Also known as the “Ace of Spades” champagne, the liquid is held in Armand de Brignac’s famous gold pewter bottles. Armand de Brignac was created by Cattier for the André Courrèges fashion house but now is sold all over the world. The champagne has a “racy fruit character” with “subtle brioche accents.”
3. 1907 Heidsieck, $275,000
Our third most expensive champagne also happens to be the third shipwrecked bottle on the list. Though much rarer now, when a Swedish salvage team found the bottles in 1997 there were 3,000 of them in total. At first, it was questionable that anyone should drink the champagne, as it had been sitting at the bottom of the ocean for nearly a hundred years. But the underwater conditions were nearly identical to an aboveground cellar, and this 1907 Heisieck became a coveted drink.

2. 2013 Taste of Diamonds, $1.8 million
Personalized champagne bottles? Sure. Our second most expensive champagne selection is called the Taste of Diamonds, and you’ll need a pretty penny to buy this bottle at $1.8 million. The bottle itself emulates a vintage style from the roaring 20s, engraved with the drinker’s name on 18-karat solid gold along with an 18-karat white gold tag with the brand’s label. And if that’s not enough bling, in the center of the tag is a 19-karat diamond.

1. 2017 Champagne Avenue Foch, $2.5 million
Our final and most expensive champagne bottle sold at $2.5 million at auction, but wasn’t just due to the champagne inside the bottle. The Avenue Foch 2017 was offered with an NFT that gives the owner the digital art and intellectual property rights to an image also known as the Bored Ape Mutant, along with other cartoon figures on the bottle. The brand Champagne Avenue Foch is relatively new, made from Premier Cru grapes in Chamery.
