Conclusion
We’re used to seeing Wayne Gretzky dominate sales when it comes to hockey cards, but July 2023, saw Gretzky only making the top-25 four times. Two big surprises about Gretzky in this top 25:
- Wayne Gretzky’s 1989 O-Pee-Chee card, ranked third, fetched only $203 from 18 bids. The big surprise is that a PSA 10 with a pop of 161 could/should be making more.
- Plus, Wayne Gretzky’s 1988 Topps card, graded 9 by KSA, fetched a shockingly low $62.
Our surprise comes purely from the fact, Wayne Gretzky + the increasing interest in alternative investments.
The star of the show this month was clearly the 1989 Joe Sakic’s O-Pee-Chee card, graded 10 by PSA, which secured the top spot with a price of $494 after 54 bids. It was also great to see Ray Bourque’s 1988 O-Pee-Chee card, Chris Pronger’s 1992 Upper Deck, and Brendan Shanahan’s 1988 O-Pee-Chee almost crossing the $100 price point, each with a decent amount of bidders. Lots of bids mean lots of interest, and that can only drive further increases in value.
