At a Beverly Hills auction, Olivia Newton-John’s tight black pants and leather jacket from the movie Grease sold for $405,700, more than double what was anticipated.
500 artifacts were up for auction at Julien’s Auctions to support Newton-John’s cancer treatment facility in Australia. Among them was the costume that represented the transformation of Newton-John’s role from a reserved high school student to the seductive Sandy in the 1978 musical.
The legendary pants that Olivia Newton-John wore for the You’re the One That I Want duet with John Travolta were marketed with a broken zipper and were so tight that she had to be stitched into them to film the sequence. The purchasers of the jacket and pants remained anonymous and are now owners of one of the most iconic pieces of Grease memorabilia of all time.
