The One Ring MTG card sells for $2.6 million to the only and only Post Malone only months after being found.
Magic: The Gathering has quite a cult following. It’s a tabletop and digital collectable card game that was released in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast. Since its release, fans everywhere have traded, collected, and built their decks to play against one another.

Like all tradable games, there is always going to be rare and unique cards. And for this game, the One Ring MTG card is something special, as only one has ever been printed.
While there are several copies that fans could find, they are perforated versions, meant to be torn apart. But this copy is one-of-a-kind, as it covered in gold foil and has the original Elvish Black Speech inscription in honor of J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic Lord of the Rings series.
While it was originally found in July of 2023, proof coming from the grading company PSA, the founder asked to be left anonymous for obvious reasons, but thankfully more news has recently surfaced.
August marked when Brook Trafton spoke about his find on TikTok, showing the world the incredible card with shaking hands.
But with such an amazing item, why Post Malone?
Austin Post, also known as Post Malone, is a rapper, singer and songwriter, and is known for his popular songs like “Sunflower”, “Chemical” and “Circles” to name a few. It’s well-known that Malone is a lover of games, as he is seen streaming on the popular gaming platform, Twitch.
It’s also known that he is a big fan of Magic: The Gathering as he has previously spent over $800,000 on an Alpha Black Lotus card signed by Christopher Rush. Not only this, but back in 2022, Malone offered a hefty reward of $100,000 for anyone who could beat him at MTG.
Wizards of the Coast also reached out to Malone to help bring back the global play program Friday Night Magic. The rapper doesn’t hide his love and passion for the card game, which is a big reason on why Tafton decided to sell him the card.

Tafton was adamant about selling the card to another MTG fan and not a collector. A TikTok showed Tafton speaking to Malone about the card, and after a quick inspection, viewers can see Malone excitedly saying, “I’ll take it,” with an agreed upon $2 million. With a hug and some tears, Malone was rewarded with an amazing find, and Tafton got to share his love for MTG with a die-hard fan.
Tafton posted a Storytime on TikTok August 5th to describe his story on how he found the card and the process of meeting Malone. In the video, he spoke about his dream of meeting with Malone and selling it to him after he found the card but knew that it might be impossible to reach the artist. However, during Malone’s tour in Toronto, Tafton received a call about meeting with singer.
What he originally thought was going to be a meet-up involving conversations and photos turned into an offer that created a rememberable interaction between two MTG fans.
Commentors are congratulating Tafton on his find and his meeting with Malone. Several fans are expressing their respect and gratitude in seeing such a passionate fan receiving the card, as most were worried about where it would end up.

After the purchase, Tafton is seen on TikTok uploading more videos on his recent card pack purchases as he hunts for the Jeweled Lotus card, and says to his new follower base, “I am a collector, I am trying to get at least one of every set in the box”. Hopefully we can see more of him on the platform to follow his journey.

But The Lord of the Rings is not all in store for fans. During Gen Con, one of the largest and longest-running gaming conventions in North America, MTG announced upcoming collaborations with titles like Jurassic World, Doctor Who, Assassin’s Creed and more. They spoke about the rest of their 2023 line-up and shared a sneak peek into 2024, 2025 and beyond. Mark Rosewater, the MTG Head Designer, even says they “didn’t announce everything” at the convention, leaving fans on edge to hear more.
While the One Ring was exciting news, there is so much more in store for players in the years to come.
