Throughout history, there have been countless questions about life beyond Earth. Space is vast and unknown, and many hope that there’s something else out there. This creates some of the many strange UFO stories that have left behind big questions. These stories vary from just full-on strange to even chilling, so much so that it’s hard to know what’s real or not.

The Emilcin abduction was a supposed alien abduction of Polish farmer Jan Wolski in 1978. While it didn’t receive much media attention at first, a monument was later put up in Emilcin, Poland, where the abduction later occurred. What’s interesting is that it’s not so much of a kidnapping, just a strange encounter, as Wolski was invited to visit a mysterious vehicle, and he did so of his own accord. And according to Wolski, “They were talking in thin voices, unknown to me… I didn’t understand any of it. All in all, I drove out from behind these bushes, and there’s this, well, some car hovering in the air.”

Another one of the many strange UFO stories that left behind big questions is the incident in 1994 outside of Ruwa, Zimbabwe, at the Ariel School. Sixty-two students apparently saw one or more wilver craft descend from the sky and land on a field near their school. The students claimed that they saw creatures dressed in all black that telepathically communicated to them a message with an environmental theme.

The Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter claims to be an up-close encounter with extraterrestrial beings in Kentucky in 1955. UFOlogists place this as one of the most significant and well-documented cases in all history; however, many are skeptical, as there is no physical documentation. On the evening of August 21, five adults and seven children went to the police station to claim that aliens were attacking their farmhouse and were being helped off by gunfire. Two adults, Elmer Sutton and Billy Ray Taylor, claimed that they were shooting dark figures who repeatedly popped up. However, when the police and the nearby military arrived, they found nothing.

One of the more recent strange UFO stories that brings about big questions is from 2006 at Chicago’s airport. On November 7, twelve United Airlines employees and several dozen bystanders claimed they witnessed a UFO hovering above Concourse C. Apparently, the classic saucer-shaped UFO hovered over the gate for about 10 to 15 minutes before ascending vertically through the cloud cover at a high rate of speed.

2. The Westwall High School Incident

The Westwall High School sighting was in Australia in 1966, and is widely known as one of the strangest UFO stories that left big questions. The object was observed by multiple people, including the students, though details vary by accounts. Essentially, it’s claimed that a round object with a domed top descended behind a row of trees. Some even say the object was pursued by five unidentified craft. Some reported that the object stayed and hovered, while others claimed that it took off after landing. The wide variety of reports makes it hard to nail down, but it’s still widely known as one of the most famous sightings.

One of the many strange UFO stories is set in Phoenix, Arizona. The Phoenix Lights were a series of widely sighted unidentified flying objects observed in the skies on March 123, 1997. Lights of varying descriptions were seen between 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. in a space of about 300 miles, from the Nevada line, through Phoenix, to the edge of Tucson. Many witnesses described it as a huge square-shaped UFO. There were two events involved: a triangle formation of lights and a series of stationary lights.
