5. Thailand & Playing Cards

While carrying a full deck of 52 playing cards is totally allowed, you will need government approval if you plan on carrying multiple packs. This is because of the Playing Cards Act passed in 1943, which is part of Thailand’s strict anti-gambling laws.
4. Canada & Too Many Coins

Next on our list of strange laws from around the world is Canada, and paying with too many coins. Canadian law limits how many coins can be used in a transaction. For instance, 25 loonies ($1 coins) is the maximum. The law is part of Canada’s Currency Act, which sets limits on how many coins can be used when purchasing goods. In one transaction, you can use up to 25 pennies, 100 nickels, 100 dimes, 40 quarters, 25 loonies, and 20 toonies ($2 coins).

3. Denmark & Baby Names

Rounding out the top three strange laws from around the world is Denmark’s limit on baby names. When expecting in Denmark, prospective parents must choose from a list of 7,000 pre-approved baby names. If you wish to name your baby something not on the list, you will need to seek special approval from your local church, and the name will also be reviewed by government officials. Unconventional spellings of common names are frequently turned down.

2. Scotland & Home Bathrooms

Second on our list of strange laws from around the world is Scotland’s law regarding strangers using your bathroom. If someone knocks on your door and asks to use the bathroom, you are legally required to let them in and use the facilities. The enforceable law originates from an extension of the old Scottish common law that requires hospitality to be shown to guests.

While selfies in other locations may be okay, turning your back on a Buddha statue in Sri Lanka is considered disrespectful and illegal.
