Throughout history, the military has developed various weapons to help it defend the country. And while these advancements were remarkable, there are some that sound so crazy that they might seem fake. However, these strange inventions are genuine projects that have received funding, testing, and have drawn serious attention. Let’s dive into these crazy military weapons.
6. Sentient Vehicles
We have unmanned cars, so why not military vehicles? While drones have become more and more popular, especially in the military setting, it seems like they’re ramping up with more unmanned vehicles, including airplanes to even bomb-removal buggies. These not only will keep more soldiers safe, but also offer more aid to various military situations.
5. Vomit Gun
Vomit Guns, or the LED Incapacitator, might sound like a joke weapon, but it’s really a thing! The weapon is designed like a flashlight, and emits a bright, rapid, well-focused series of “differently-colored random pulses.” The point of the weapon is to cause intracranial pressure, which will cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, disorientation, irritability, and visual impairment to the target. It’s a non-lethal weapon that is designed to help law enforcement.
4. CornerShot Rifle & Grenade Launcher
One of the biggest problems when in combat is peaking around corners or trying to see around corners. It’s a tricky situation that is extremely dangerous if you’re unaware of what’s on the other side. And while the idea of a gun that can point at a 90-degree angle might sound hilarious, it’s actually an invented weapon. The CornerShot Rifle and Grenade Launcher does just that; it’s an accessory that allows a mounted weapon to be aimed and fired around corners.
3. Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit
For fans of science fiction and fantasy films, you might have seen these before. Several high-tech military films feature this, and even high fantasy, for instance, Iron Man is essentially an exosuit, along with Avatar, with their AMP Suits. And it seems like we have our own.
The TALOS suit is one of the crazy military weapons you might think doesn’t exist, but it was, in fact, a research and development effort, first proposed in 2013. The goal was to design it so that it could be bulletproof, weaponized, and have the ability to monitor vitals, as well as give enhanced strength and perception. Though it officially concluded in 2019 after determining that it wasn’t feasible.
2. Electromagnetic Railgun
Again, another weapon that you might have seen in video games or movies is a railgun, and surprisingly, it’s one of the crazy military weapons that you might think is fake.
Essentially, the railgun is just a machine that uses electricity instead of gunpowder to push a metal projectile forward. This means it can fire long-range, ultra-fast, low-cost rounds without relying on missiles. And while it was believed to be cancelled, news has been out through March that the US Navy has quietly started testing it again.

Speaking of movies, have you seen the Predator? While we all gawked at the invisible cloaking method that they had, it seems like that could be a reality. One of the many crazy military weapons is the Quantum Stealth technology, which allows you to camouflage people by bending light around the object. This will help soldiers to infiltrate enemy territory without being detected, not only gaining the upper hand, but also providing safety if they’re trying to fall back.
