The Estate of Mike Stewart

The focal point of the auction sale is the estate of Mike Stewart, a well-known figure within the firearms collecting community.

His collection features early revolvers from American manufacturers like Colt, Remington, and Smith & Wesson. Items to keep an eye out for include a Colt 1872 Open Top Revolver, a Colt 1860 Army Conversion Revolver, a 2nd Model American Smith & Wesson revolver, and a 1875 Remington revolver, all in well-preserved condition.

The Colt 1872 in particular is notable as the brand’s first purpose-built cartridge revolver, and represents a transitional period bridging cap-and-ball firearms with more modern cartridge models. It includes an original serial number and a one-piece ivory grip, and is valued between two and three thousand dollars.

In addition to the Stewart collection, the Montrose Auction will showcase two other collections that expand the selection into high-end sporting and precision arms.

One collection has a rare Cabot Guns “American Joe” .45 ACP pistol from a limited 2013 First Edition run, complete with original factory accessories and custom-made silver bullets.

The second collection features three Christensen Arms Ridgeline 14-bolt rifles, known for their aerospace-grade materials and lightweight feel.

Sporting shotguns made by Italian maker Caesar Guerini further round out the event, in addition to an Invictus over/under 12-gauge shotgun engraved with gold inlay by Master Engraver Bottega Giovanelli. This gun is estimated to be between three and four thousand dollars.
