What is on the 2025 American Liberty Coin?

The focal point of the coin is the obverse side. Centered on the coin is a sunflower accompanied by a small bee. According to the Mint, the pairing is meant to symbolize the stewardship required to preserve democratic institutions.

On the reverse side, there is a stylized eagle rendered in a modern motif, and a departure from the classic portrait present on most quarters.

The series “explores the theme beyond the classical tradition of allegorical ‘Liberty,'” and continues to do so with the 2025 coin reinterpreting liberty through nature-themed symbols.

Collector’s Details About the Coin

The gold coin will be struck at West Point and contains one troy ounce of .9999 fine gold. The 2025 American Liberty coin will be offered with limited availability.

The press release about the coin noted that mintage and household-order limits apply, and purchasers will receive a Certificate of Authenticity. Designer and sculptor credits will also be provided with the coin.

The Mint’s online page also invites collectors to add the item to a wish list or sign up for a “Remind Me” notification to ensure they get the opportunity to purchase the piece.

The American Liberty Program Past Coins

The 2025 American Liberty coin is just one of many in the American Liberty program. In the past, the program has used contemporary natural and cultural imagery to express the idea of liberty, similar to this year’s rendition.

For instance, the Mint’s 2023 High Relief Gold Coin has an obverse portraying a bristlecone pine, selected to represent resilience and longevity. The reverse features a young bald eagle about to take flight.

Another example is the 2021 High Relief Gold Coin with a bucking American Mustang on the obverse side, meant to represent throwing off the yoke of colonial rule, while the reverse has a close-up eagle.

The main goal of this program is to broaden the visual language of liberty beyond allegorical female figures.

Excitement Around the New Release

With a combination of limited production, timed sales, and household limits, there will be an increased interest from collectors. This will most likely be concentrated in the immediate sales window, which is why the Mint’s website provides options to receive reminders and further ordering information about the piece.

Avid collectors interested in the piece should consult the Mint’s sales page and the August 21st window to confirm price, availability, and any other details pertinent to the sale.
