The collectible card world is large and contains several categories, one of them being Magic The Gathering cards. Similar to Pokémon cards, certain cards hold incredible value, grabbing attention from investors and avid fans alike. Ranging from tens of thousands of dollars to even in the millions, these are six of the most valuable Magic The Gathering cards.

Starting our list of the most valuable Magic The Gathering cards is the 1997 Splendid Genesis card. A one-of-a-kind collectible, while it may not be the most powerful card, it was personally created by Richard Garfield himself to celebrate the birth of his first child in 1997. This card did not go in any standard MTG set, and only 110 copies were printed and distributed to Garfield’s friends and family. An 8-graded version of the card sold for $72,000 in 2022.

5. 1993 Alpha Timetwister, $84,000

Fifth on our list of the most valuable Magic The Gathering cards is the 1993 Alpha Timetwister card. A part of the Power Nine cards, it can force all players to shuffle their hand, graveyard, and library together before picking a new hand, rearranging the game in an instant. Only 1,008 Alpha copies were printed for this card, with many being heavily played in games, making a PSA 10 version, which sold for $84,000 in 2023, even rarer.

4. 1993 Alpha Lord of the Pit, $105,000

Next on our list of the most valuable Magic The Gathering cards is the 1993 Alpha Lord of the Pit card. Illustrated by Mark Tedin, the demon became a symbol for the black mana’s high-risk, high-reward playing style. Only 1,008 copies of the Alpha card were printed, and many have suffered wear over the years. However, a BGS 10 Pristine version of the card was sold in 2023 for $105,000, an extremely tantalizing find.

3. 1993 Alpha Mox Jet, $108,000

Another black mana card, the Mox Jet, is a Power Nine artifact that can give an edge to whoever plays it. Only 1,008 copies of the card were printed, many suffering heavy wear before the age of the protective sleeve came around. One version was left untouched, though, with the PSA 10 graded card selling for $108,000 in 2024.

2. 2023 The One Ring – Tales of Middle-earth, $2 million

Second on our list of the most valuable Magic The Gathering cards is a blend between two fandoms. The One Ring from Tales of Middle-earth card is a legend in the game, sold as a collaboration between MTG and The Lord of the Rings. While most rare cards have several copies, there is only one of these cards in existence. The card, once found, was later bought by die-hard MTG fan Post Malone for a mind-numbing $2 million.

1. 1993 Alpha Black Lotus PSA 10, $3 million

Last but not least on our list of the most valuable Magic The Gathering cards is the 1993 Alpha Black Lotus card. While the One Ring card might be the most exclusive in the MTG world, the Black Lotus is the most iconic, revered, and valuable of the bunch. Its Power Nine status isn’t the only thing driving its value. Only a handful of PSA 10 copies of the card are known to exist, and one of those pristine copies was sold in 2023 for $3 million, making it the most expensive MTG card ever sold.
