6 Most Haunted Artifacts Ever Discovered

While most artifacts are harmless when discovered, haunted artifacts are a whole other story. Filled with dark backstories, spine-tingling sensations, and the urge to run as far away as possible, these artifacts have inspired fear or trepidation in viewers for decades. 6. The Dybbuk Box

Starting our list of haunted artifacts is the Dybbuk Box. The wine box is allegedly possessed by a dybbuk, which is a malicious and possessing demon in Jewish mythology. Inspiring the 2012 horror film The Possession, it first gained attention in 2001 during an eBay auction which claimed the original owner was a survivor of the Holocaust. Strange activity has been reported around the artifact, including terrifying nightmares.

5. The Dark Mirror

Next up on our list of haunted artifacts is the dark mirror. Part of the “world’s only mobile museum of the unexplained,” the mysterious reflector provides a sinister sight. The original owner purchased it while at a psychic fair in the Columbus area, claiming they were struck by upsetting visions when gazing into the reflection. Others have claimed to see their own corpse or other uncomfortable images.
4. The Terracotta Army

Fourth on our list of haunted artifacts is the terracotta army. While not so much cursed, it did bring misfortune to those who found the artifacts. Farmers in a nearby town discovered the terracotta warriors buried with the first emperor of China. Over time, their land became overshadowed by the tourism business looking to make a profit, and was later claimed by the state, pushing the farmers off their land. The worst part? They weren’t paid a dime for the discovery.

3. The Goddess of Death Statue

Rounding out our top three haunted artifacts is the Goddess of Death Statue. While the statue seems unassuming, death surrounds its history. Crafted around 3500 BC, the statue was found in Cyprus in 1878. The first owner and his family perished within six years of ownership, the second owner and his family died after four years, and then a third family came around. Some members died, however, the remaining family donated it to the Royal Scottish Museum, where it still lies.

2. The Hope Diamond

Second on our list of haunted artifacts is the Hope Diamond. While some aspects of the curse seem inflated to increase the diamond’s mystery, there is no doubt of the peculiar nature of the diamond’s past. The diamond is said to have been stolen from a statue, and the thief later suffered an unfortunate death. This prompted a string of dark fates for whoever touched or owned the diamond but has since been donated to The Smithsonian in 1958, stopping the alleged curse for now.
1. The Annabelle Doll

Last but not least on our list of haunted artifacts is the Annabelle Doll. The name is derived from the alleged girl who possesses it and was owned by a college student named Donna in the 1970s. Over time, Donna and her roommate noticed the doll seemed to move around and change positions without help. They continued receiving disturbing signals, which culminated in the tale that Donna’s friend Lou was killed due to his suspicions. The doll was later given to paranormal experts The Warrens, and sits inside a glass box in their museum.
