6. Jesse James’ Loot

Somewhere in Oklahoma, most likely near Robbers Cave in the Wichita Mountains, there is said to be over $1 million worth of hidden treasure left behind by Jesse James and his band of outlaws back in the 19th century. There are hundreds of tales about the gang’s exploits, all ending with essentially the same words that he left treasure behind and was never seen again.

5. The Beale Ciphers

One of America’s lost treasures is the Baele ciphers, which were found by Thomas J. Beale at an abandoned mine full of gold, silver, and jewels in Santa Fe, New Mexico, during the 1800s. Along with 30 adventures, they transported the goods to Bedford County, Virginia, and buried them. He then created three ciphers detailing what the treasure was, where it was located, and the contact information of the people who helped him. The ciphers were published in 1885, but only one has been cracked: the second cipher.

4. The Old Ozark Treasure Cave

One of the Ozarks’ biggest mysteries is located northwest of Arkansas, where it’s believed to hold a hidden treasure buried by Spanish conquistadors fleeing from Native Americans over 300 years ago. The treasure itself hasn’t been found, but there have been some artifacts from around that time period, such as helmets, weapons, and armor, that have been discovered in the area.

3. Blackbeard’s Atlantic Coast Treasure Trove

But even with America’s lost treasures, there are some from pirates back in the day, like Blackbeard’s Atlantic Coast treasure trove. From 1716 to 1718, Blackbeard traversed the West Indies and the Atlantic Coast, attacking ships full of goodies. It’s said that he boasted about his buried treasure, never trusting anyone to divulge the location. Unfortunately, when he was executed, the location of his treasure was lost with him.

2. Pirate Treasure at Hawaii’s Palemano Point

Another pirate treasure to stay on theme with America’s lost treasures is located at Palemano Point, an exposed reef break off Hawaii’s Big Island, which could have over $5 million worth of treasure. According to the Hawaii’s Unsolved Mysteries book, Captain Thomas Cavendish was a 16th-century English privateer whose career led him to bury some of his silver and gold riches. Explorers have tried to locate the treasure but are still unable to.

1. Eight Fabergé Eggs

During the Russian Revolution in 1918, the Bolsheviks first murdered the Romanovs, then came for the House of Fabergé, a well-known imperial Russian jewelry designer. The eggs were confiscated and sent for safekeeping in Moscow and were later discovered in the early 1930s by Armand Hammer, who sold some. However, eight of the 50 eggs made for the Imperial Family remain unaccounted for.
