FANTASY TV SERIES: Despite the difficulty of shooting a TV series or movie during a year-long period of intermittent lockdowns, streaming content on Netflix, Disney Plus, and Co. has continued to reach us.
And after a year like 2020, there is nothing more entertaining than a grand fantasy adventure in 2021. So while theatres get back on track, let’s dig into the numerous fantasy TV series coming this year that’ll make staying home that little bit easier:
The Lord of the Rings – Prime Video, TBA 2021
When it comes to fantasy royalty, there’s none bigger than The Lord of the Rings:
And that has never been more obvious than with this TV series adaptation. The question is how will it stack up against a fantastic movie trilogy or even the monumental books?
The fact it will cost Amazon Prime $1-billion by the end of production doesn’t guarantee success – what it does guarantee is that we’ll likely see nothing else like it on our TV screens in 2021.
We are all waiting, hoping it is the one show to rule them all.
Circe – HBO Max, TBA 2021
Inspired by Madeline Miller’s book, Circe is a mythological fantasy TV series composed of 8 episodes. Written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the story is about a powerful deity from Greek mythology.
Behind the mythological figure, there is much more than a cruel witch. This feminine and feminist reinterpretation will have intriguing stories, rich special effects, and high-quality production values courtesy of HBO.
Shadow and Bone – Netflix, April 2021
This fantasy TV series tells the story of Alina Starkov, a soldier who discovers a mysterious power that can help her defeat the dangerous Shadow Fold, a dark character that threatens her country.
The TV show will be set in a magical world full of fearsome creatures that the protagonist will face.
Based on the novels “Shadow and Bone” and “Six of Crows”, written by Leigh Bardugo.
The Wheel of Time – Prime Video, TBA 2021
Based on the novels of the same name, “The Wheel of Time” spans fourteen books and is written by Robert Jordan:
For those in the know, this book series could rival Game of Thrones as a TV series – yet it all depends on what Amazon Prime do with it.
If you do not know anything about the book series, it is about a fantasy world where women have the ability to use magic.
Fate – The Winx Saga – Netflix, January 2021
We don’t know if this will be a low-budget show or the next big teen drama fantasy series. “Fate – The Winx Saga” is an Italian – British production and it will be released on January 22nd on Netflix.
It was taken from the animated television series “Winx Club”, which was very popular in the first half of the 2000s. And with a Netflix audience that seems desperate for more teen drama, especially fantasy ones, we’re betting that this fantasy TV series ends up as one of the most talked-about on the net.
