How The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Will Be Different

After a significant change in 2021’s Samsung Galaxy S21, including the design, branding, camera, and specifications, we’re not expected to see any design changes or major overhauls in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra model:

We already know the two basic flagships of the phone (S22 and S22+) will look the same with some performance upgrades over the S21. However, the S22 Ultra will have some significant upgrades.

Current Expectations

Estimated release date: February 2022

According to all the sources from South Korea, there will be three models, the S22, the S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra.

First, let’s dive in with S22 and S22+ base models. According to Let’s Go Digital, and other famous time travelers, aka design leakers, both the phones will have a smaller size than the previous year’s model.

In another report, 91 mobiles stated that Samsung Galaxy’s new phones would have realistic plastic backplates to increase aesthetics and durability. However, both models will retain the look of the previous model.

When it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, recent leaks (renders) revealed the model to be more like the Note series. Potentially including a squared-off Note-style frame, matching the Note’s height, and most importantly, a slot for an S-pen:

However, the whole internet disagreed on the Let’s Go Digital render, as the renders showed off an old P-shaped design with a hidden front camera.

Other notable differences between models:

Display Sizes

The display size for the base models is expected to be a bit smaller than its predecessors.

  • The Galaxy S22 is expected to have a screen size of 6.06-inch, which makes it a bit smaller than S21’s 6.2-inch display.
  • The S22 Plus is also smaller, with a display of 6.55-inch rather than 6.7″.
  • Lastly, the S22 Ultra is considerably bigger than its predecessor, as we can expect a curved 6.8″ display with all the Note Series characteristics.

Cost Difference

These rumors come from credible sources, with a high success rate. However, we’ve not heard any credible rumor about the price:

According to the characteristics of the leaks, we don’t think there would be a significant spike in the price from the last year’s Samsung Galaxy S21. In comparison to the Galaxy S20,

Samsung’s previous flagship device, the Galaxy S21, was $200 cheaper, and it would be surprising if Samsung increased the price significantly this year. Depending on the model, the Galaxy S21 is priced between $799 and $1,379 at this time.

Performance Upgrades

The Galaxy S22 will have a performance and speed boost. Additionally, you can expect improved Snapdragon 895 Qualcomm chips. In contrast, the S21 comes with a Snapdragon 888:

The above rumor is expected to turn into reality when the brand announces its newer models in Q1 of 2022. This new smartphone processor might even be manufactured by Samsung.

On the other hand, Samsung and AMD have already partnered up with a multi-year contract. Due to this, we may see Exynos 2200 in the newer smartphone models:

An alternative take is that the European models will have Exynos SoC, while other regions’ will boast Snapdragon chips.

Camera

The expected camera in the base and Plus model will be the same, a triple camera design, with a 50 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. This time, it could be exact 3x optical zoom instead of 3x hybrid zoom:

And if rumors are correct, Samsung will integrate a 200 MP camera sensor as its next model.

Despite all of the above being rumors, one thing is certain, the Samsung S22 Ultra will be a significant upgrade.
